Texas Hold'em Popularity

So, you're interested in the game of Texas Holdem? Well, you're not the only one; Texas Holdem is today’s most popular casino poker room game and is fast becoming a national passtime in Canada. Statistics indicate that one in five people play poker on a regular basis, according to the Play Texas Hold 'Em Web site.

Why is Texas Hold’em so popular? Although it has been around for generations, No Limit Hold’Em popularity has dramatically increased because of nationally televised tournaments.  For example, the World Poker Tour is a media and entertainment company that televises the largest poker tournaments in the world. Once a player has won a title, they become a celebrity overnight. Texas Hold 'em is also popular because it can be learned in a few minutes by anyone, however may take a lifetime to master.

Business Concept

Sudbury’s Ultimate Poker League is an entertainment provider that hosts organized poker tournaments in the City of Sudbury.  The service entails coordinating poker tournaments as well as providing all necessary equipment such as tables, chips and cards to play Texas Hold’em Poker.

The company was incorporated in the fall of 2006 and will begin its opening night at Shaughnessy’s Pub and Grill on January 25th 2007.

We provide free high quality entertainment and friendly competition to all players without monetary risk. We are also dedicated in maintaining the highest level of professionalism in our business relationships with the players, owners and members of the community.

Tournament Overview

  • The game played at all of our locations is No Limit Texas Hold’em. In No Limit Hold’em poker, at any time a player can bet everything he or she has on the table and go all in. Therefore, it is a game of elimination (freeze-out) with the last player left in the game earning the most points.
  • There is no entry fee to play in Sudbury’s Ultimate Poker League. Prizes such as T-shirts, trophies and gift certificates will be given to the final eight players every week.
  • Any type of gambling, such as side betting is prohibited.
  • It is expected that all entrants will have some knowledge of the game No-Limit Texas Hold'em.

 How/when to sign up

  • Any individual willing to play can register the night of the event at the participating venue. The registration period begins one hour prior to the tournament. Players that want to guarantee their seat in the tournament should arrive early in order to avoid any type of overcapacity issues.

How seating works

  • Upon registration each player will choose a card from a table. Each player’s card will correspond to a specific table in which they will be seated. For example, if a player draws a Queen, they will be seated at the Queens table.
  • Once the tournament has started and players are eliminated, there are two conditions which require a table to be broken up and the players at that table to be reassigned to other seats.

Condition One: The table with the highest amount of players in the tournament will be broken up when enough players have been eliminated.

Condition Two:  When a table has five (5) players remaining, that table will be put on hold until a player is added or the five players are assigned to another table.

Moving Players Tables

The tournament directors will move players to reduce the number of tables. Players will be seated in similar blind positions according to their previous table. When a table has five (5) players remaining, that table will be put on hold until a player is added or those players are assigned to another table.

If a player is moved to another table and that player is seated in a blind position when this was not the case at his/her previous table, they may wait for the deal to pass them.  Please note that the Tournament Directors will try to maintain even numbers at each table to keep a level of fairness; although this may not always be possible.

Important Notes

When a player is eliminated, that player must let the tournament director know in order for that seat to be filled or the table broken up.

If a player leaves without letting the tournament director know, that player will lose any points he may have earned at that tournament.

When a player is reassigned to another table, that individual will be seated according to his or her position at the previous table.

Once the tournament has ten players remaining, they will be randomly distributed at a final table. No additional seat reassignments will occur in the tournament.
